Scarborough in April

Easter is the first Sunday after the full moon following the northern hemisphere’s vernal equinox. Got that? Good. Well, I’m glad we got that cleared up. You didn’t? Well in 2011 it’s on April 24, 2012: April 8, 2013: March 31 and if we’re all around for 2014: May 5.

Anyway, the important thing is schools get two weeks of holidays, the sun comes out along with the spring flowers, and it’s our first real chance to wear short sleeves and sit outside with a cup of tea. As I write, on the weekend after Easter 2010, it’s about 15 degrees out there, Scarborough beach is heaving with people, the walk around the castle headland is busier than I’ve ever seen it. Winter has gone, and we’ve a whole Scarborough summer to look forward to.
