Scarborough in February

You’re thinking ‘cold’. We’re thinking crisp winter air, open skies, huge crashing waves, room to breathe in the shops, crisp snow underfoot, coffee by the harbour, theatre, music and great deals on room prices. It’s the romance of space. No hustle or bustle, just time to see where your wandering takes you.

Plus, we have Coastival, a showcase of fabulous art and culture. For 2011, local photographer Tony Bartholomew is taking a Scarborough photograph every day for a year leading up to the start of the festival, here’s the first of his in February.

You can still bring your bucket and spade to a Scarborough holiday, even in February

The shops and boutiques in Bar Street are still lovely in the snow
Remember, Scarborough gets sunrises, not sunsets. But I think this is a sunset.Love those still days when you can't see where the sea ends and the sky beginsSometimes Scarborough at dusk looks like a jewelled necklaceFancy a stroll around the Scarborough castle headland in crisp winter sun, ending in a seafront cafe?
Even a murky February Scarborough can take your breath away
