Access Statement
Overview
The Paragon is a beautiful 6 storey Victorian property that has been tastefully converted into 13 en-suite guest rooms. We endeavour to cater for the different needs of our visitors and the following statement provides a general summary of the accessibility of our hotel. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Pre-arrival

Scarborough train station is a 5 minute drive away or about 15 minutes to walk mainly on the flat. Most out of town buses drop off near to the train station.
The number 3a bus stops very near to the hotel on North Marine Road (the other entrance to the Paragon) and can be caught almost outside the hotel.

Arrival
Rooms are ready by 1 p.m. You are welcome to check in between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. (later by prior arrangement). Check out is at 10 a.m.
There are 6 off-street parking spaces on a brick laid driveway. On-street parking is allowed and we will supply you with a free parking permit. The area is well lit by street lighting and the hotel’s lighting.
Main entrance
The main entrance is on Queen’s Parade. There are 9 steps to the front door with a rail on the right when ascending and a small step and threshold clearance to the inner door and reception.
Reception
The reception area has a large information display and reception area. There is usually someone at the desk but there is a bell to ring if not.

We will take your luggage to your room if you require.
Lounge Bar
We have a very pleasant and relaxing bar with stunning sea views. There is plenty of seating and this is of the lounge armchair type (please see this photograph of our sea-view bar lounge). In addition to the bar there is a coffee menu.
Dining area and meals
This is on the lower ground floor. The stairway is next to the reception and has 15 steps with a rail on the right when descending.
Each room is allocated a table that is laid to your party’s needs. The chairs are upright armless dining chairs.
Breakfast orders are taken from 8.30 a.m. with last orders at 9 a.m.
A door and 1 step leads from the dining area to a patio area with seating. From here it is 6 steps up to the parking area.
Most specialist diets can be catered for. Please inform us when you book your stay. Please feel free to bring any of your preferred foods etc with you, we will store and cook these for you.
Flooring
All public interior areas including stairs are carpeted. The bathroom flooring is linoleum and there are bath/shower mats that can be removed.
Fire alarms and safety
Each floor (landing area) has a fire alarm button and alarm bell. Please notify us if you are hard of hearing and therefore may not hear the bell. All rooms have ‘in case of emergency’ instructions on the back of the room door.
Smoking
Smoking is permitted at the patio area and at the front and rear entrances. Use the ashtrays provided.
Storage needs
Collapsible wheelchairs/pushchairs can be kept in the reception area. If you intend to bring bikes please contact us and we can discuss where they can be stored. Medication that requires refrigeration will be stored for you.
Mobility, independent living equipment and health
We can arrange daily hire of mobility scooters. If you wish to bring your own bathing aids please contact us to discuss suitable rooms for their use. Please be aware use of these aids will be the visitor’s responsibility. We have some equipment that may assist people who are hard of hearing, i.e. a flashing alarm clock.
If required we can organise an appointment for you at a local GP’s surgery.
Guide dogs are accepted in particular rooms where there is sufficient floor space for a basket, please contact us for details.
Rooms
All rooms have double glazed windows and plenty of wardrobe/cupboard space. Most of the beds are about 21 inches high. The rooms vary in size so please contact us if you have any specific questions. All bedrooms are en-suite (toilet, sink and shower) have heated towel rails and extractor fans. Shower cubicles are slightly raised from the floor have non-slip surfaces and concertina doors. There is coffee/tea making facilities, colour TV and direct dial telephones in all rooms.
Floor 1
There are 17 steps to the 1st floor (from the reception area) with banister rail on the left side when ascending. Rooms 1 and 4 have double beds with 4 having a sea view. Room 3 (Platinum room with sea view) is a large room with a super king size bed that can be converted to twin beds. This room also has two chairs positioned to take advantage of the sea view. It also has a large shower cubicle. There is a public toilet on this floor.
Floor 2
There are 17 steps to the 2nd floor from the 1st floor with banister rail on the left side when ascending. Rooms 5 and 6 have super king beds which can be converted to twin beds. Rooms 7 and 8 are both doubles and have sea views.
Floor 3
There are 17 steps to the 3rd floor from the 2nd floor with banister rail on the left side when ascending. Room 9 has a super king bed that can be converted to twin beds. Room 10 is a double with space for a cot. It has a cast iron bath with a shower over. Room 11 is a double with sea view. Room 12 has a sea view and is the family room with a double and single bed.
Floor 4
There are 14 steps to the 4th floor from the 3rd floor with banister rail on the left side when ascending. Room 14 is a double and has an extra large shower cubicle. Room 17 is a double, has a sea view and a bath with over shower.
